San Bernardino County Jail Inmate Visiting Procedures

Effective March 1, 2022, here are the current visiting rules for all four of our detention facilities: West Valley Detention Center, High-Desert Detention Center, Central Detention Center, and Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center. Visits are available Wednesday to Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The following guidelines will be followed:

For inmates housed at West Valley Detention Center, Central Detention Center, Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center or High Desert Detention Center, visits are limited to two visitors per inmate.   Generally, one visitor must be an adult and the second visitor can be an adult or minor.  Minor children, at least 12 years old, can visit an incarcerated parent without an adult present.

  •  Visitors need to present identification and must arrive at least 30 minutes before their scheduled visit to facilitate check-in and screening procedures.
  •  Visitors and inmates must wear masks and maintain social distancing at all times, irrespective of vaccination status.
  •  An inmate can have a maximum of two visits (one hour total) each week until further notice.

Visitors can schedule visits for any of the four facilities via the online scheduling service at Inmate Locator/Visiting Online visiting appointments can be made at any time on the day before the visit.  Those without internet access, or who choose to not use this option, can schedule a visit by calling (909) 887-0364, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Tuesday to Friday. Visitors should call the day before the planned visit to schedule an appointment.  Please have the inmates booking number, facility, and housing location available, if possible.  With this information, staff can check visiting availability and let you know what days and times are available and provide any needed information to schedule your visit.

In the heart of San Bernardino County, the Detention and Corrections Bureau takes charge of overseeing the county's jail facilities and administering work release programs. With four primary adult jail facilities, the bureau accommodates inmates navigating the court process and those sentenced by the court. Boasting a capacity of 7,400 jail beds, the bureau manages an average daily population of 5,000 inmates. Annually, the Sheriff’s Department and allied law enforcement agencies book around 85,000 individuals. Going beyond confinement, the bureau is committed to rehabilitation, offering a diverse range of programs to diminish recidivism and facilitate inmates' successful reintegration into the community.

It is imperative to obtain the inmate booking number before scheduling a visit. Inmates can use facility telephones for legal and personal calls. Visitors must adhere to general rules, including arriving 30 minutes before appointments, presenting valid photo identification, undergoing personal belongings and vehicle searches, refraining from bringing weapons, cell phones, or recording devices, and avoiding the introduction of tobacco or illicit drugs.  Inmates within the San Bernardino County Jail system can conveniently order hygiene items, snacks, and personal essentials through the jail's commissary system. Furthermore, family and friends have the option to order commissary items for delivery to inmates through the iCare website, accessible at icaregifts.com. This streamlined process enhances accessibility for inmates to acquire necessities while ensuring a straightforward means for loved ones to provide additional support.
